Roadtrip 2014: Vancouver - Yakima - Boise - Provo - Flagstaff - Tucson - Palm Springs - Paso Robles - Sacramento - Eureka - Bandon - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 30 - South Tucson

It's oil change day for truck. We're marooned in the middle of nowhere Tucson. In Tucson you're always in the middle of nowhere. Where else to go but the mall - they're pretty much everywhere. Oh joy - Halloween is over - must be Christmas.

Do these things really help sell clothes?

Sometimes it's actually hard to sort out the false folk from the real folk.

Just then, a giant blue hockey puck dropped from the ceiling.

The first thing we see after repatriating truck is this spiked beast - ready to devour the palm tree, then the lamp standard and who knows what next. Hope Toyota checked the after burners - we're out of here.

"Lee-Lee", with apologies to Jonathan Lewis - I needed to make a Walm-Art for myself.

Ain't no mistakin' where the Alamo's Office is at.

Yous knows when yous in South Tucson.

Yup. South Tucson.

Once I was a magnificent illuminated state of the art sign. I'd beckon in weary travellers for a rest, a meal, and more than a few good stiff drinks. Now I'm a frail transparency of my former self - looking like some googly eyed alien. Wait! Maybe I am an alien! Maybe I've always been an alien - I'm just in the tranformative stage .

We think at one point the Tucsononians were trying hard for a Palm Springs look . They missed and got the close cousin - Salton Sea.

The Maids finish up for the day. And get outta Dodge.

They are keeping an extra sharp eye on our activities today, for some reason. Yesterday, it was the Black Helicopters. Today, they've called out the Spectre boys.

No matter. We have found their secret stash of space ships.

Rarin' to go - some assembly required..

There's probably still a market for these things somewhere.

It's just like the last scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Only with space ships.

Come on, you know you really can't take off anymore.

Retired to the desert.

Moonrise - boneyard.
